The Irvine Police tracked down a motorcycle thief when he tried to re-enter the U.S.

This week, the long arm of the law caught up with a man who stole two motorcycles in November, according to the Irvine Police Department.

In both cases, the suspect hot-wired the victim’s motorcycles, which were parked in private residential parking lots in the west area of Irvine.

Through excellent police work, Irvine Auto Theft Detectives identified a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Yesterday, Oscar Jesus Gutierrez, 34, of Tijuana, was arrested by Customs and Border Protection for the warrant as he attempted to re-enter the United States at a port of entry.

Detectives interviewed Gutierrez in San Diego and will be requesting he be charged with auto theft and burglary. The stolen motorcycles have not been located.

When parking your motorcycle, the Irvine Police Department suggests using brake locks, a cable lock, or an alarm system. While these methods can be defeated, anti-theft devices can slow thieves down or cause attention to the theft.
