The Irvine Police arrested a man for the fatal stabbing of his roommate

The Irvine Police Department (IPD) is investigating the homicide of a 53-year-old Irvine resident.

This morning, at about 6:21 a.m., IPD responded to 55 Fortuna East after a resident at the home
reported stabbing his roommate.

When the police officers arrived, they were met outside the residence by a male who said he got into a physical altercation with his roommate when the stabbing occurred. The man, identified as 22-year-old Irvine resident Zackery Dean Hinkle, was detained as additional officers entered the home.

Once inside, they located the victim on the ground near the front door. He was identified as Terry Rahmatulla. Officers immediately performed life-saving measures, but Rahmatulla died from his injuries.

There are other residents who live at the location, but they were not injured during this incident.

Although the investigation is ongoing, preliminarily, it appears the two had been arguing over the last
few days. This morning, the arguing turned physical, and at some point, Hinkle stabbed Rahmatulla in
the upper body.

Hinkle was arrested for murder and eventually transported to the Orange County Jail.

If anyone has information related to this investigation, please contact Detective David Misko at (949)724-7168 or email dmisko@cityofirvine.org.
