Discovery Cube Announces Partnership with PFMG Solar Who Will Provide $500,000 in Funding for Next Generation Science Standards to Orange County Teachers
SANTA ANA, CA – January 6, 2016 – Discovery Cube and PFMG Solar today announced a partnership to assist Orange County school districts in meeting the coming requirements of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). PFMG Solar has pledged a $500,000 teacher training fund to help school districts meet the Next Generation Science Standards using Discovery Cube’s professional development workshops.
All teachers in California must meet the new NGSS requirement in 2016. Discovery Cube currently offers teacher professional development programs that explore the methodologies and strategies associated with teaching NGSS. PFMG Solar has pledged to help offset the cost of these professional development workshops for Orange County school districts who implement a solar energy program with PFMG.
Discovery Cube sees an estimated 500 educators every year in professional development workshops, which are designed by the Cube’s Vice President of Education, Janet Yamaguchi. She has served on each of the California Department of Education’s NGSS Science Review Team, Science Expert Panel, and currently sits on the NGSS Strategic Implementation Team.
This partnership brings together the next generation of education with the next generation of energy. By combining on-site renewable energy generation along with the professional development program, PFMG Solar and Discovery Cube are working together to save schools money, prepare students for the future, and improve the quality of education for all Orange County children.
“We are excited to be partnering with an innovative and community focused company, like PFMG Solar,” said Joe Adams, CEO of the Discovery Science Foundation and president of Discovery Cube Orange County. “Through this partnership, we will be able to train a higher number of educators, thus creating long-term impact in the classroom and on Orange County students.”
“PFMG Solar, the number one solar energy provider for Southern California schools, recognizes the significant value provided by Discovery Cube. Our mission of enriching our local school districts is in complete concert with the Cube and we are thrilled about our new partnership,” said Paul Mikos, President of PFMG Solar.
