The Council is paying Walters over $700K and O’Rourke is getting $22K a month

” The City of Santa Ana will pay out more than $700,000 under the severance agreement struck with former city manager Paul M. Walters,” according to the O.C. Register.

The Voice of OC asked Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Sal Tinajero if the council majority miscalculated? “A miscalculation is the car’s running at 50 miles per hour and you think you can get across before you get hit,” Tinajero said. “But if the car speeds to 110 miles per hour, that’s not a miscalculation, someone just changed the rules on you.”

Tinajero’s lame answer says it all.  The Council blew this one big time.  And once you figure in the cost of a national search for a new City Manager and the cost to pay our current temporary City Manager, Kevin O’Rourke, the total cost of the Council’s petty vendetta against Walters and Mayor Miguel Pulido could be over one and a half million dollars!

The Register also reported that O’Rourke “will receive a $22,083 monthly salary. He will also receive travel expenses of up to $4,000 a month for the first 60 days, and up to $2,700 a month afterward. He would also be allowed to use a city car for personal and city business.”

The Santa Ana City Council is spending money our City simply doesn’t have.  And the State of California is still looking for the City to pay back over fifty million dollars in redevelopment dollars.

Walters by the way wanted to return to the SAPD but instead the Council blew him out and now has had to pay him a mint – which he deserves.  But this mess was entirely avoidable.  The Council created this disaster and now they have to sleep in it.

This Santa Ana Spring, a term Tinajero coined, is starting to look just like the disastrous Arab Spring.  And with Walters out you can expect the bodies to start piling up in our city, just like in the Middle East…

  • So who changed the rules on Tinajero?
Walters, the City Staff, The City Attorney? The IRS?
The system is rigged man. He should know that. No matter which direction you move. Booby trapped.

    • Matt,

      YOU GOT IT MAN!

Somebody at the VOC just lit up that shill Art Lomeli on this same thing.

      What promises were made?

      By whom? To Whom?

We should have resident expert Robin Cook chime in on wether an agreement made in secret (thats what Tinejero is alluding to) is a violation of that pesky Brown act, the Springsters like to babble about.

The dude there goes on to ask if Tinjero was saying the reason they didn't return Walters to his job of 15 years (police chief) was because of what his wife and brother in law said! But, they gave him a building!

      GOOD POINT MATEO!

  • A closer look at O'Rourkes contract shows that in addition to the $265,000 per year (the same as Walters was paid) PLUS $8,000 in travel expenses for the first sixty days. Assuming this is to cover his travel too and from home (Northern CA????) and $2700 there after.

    FIRST QUESTION IS WHY?

SECOND WOULD BE WHAT CONSTITUTES TRAVEL?

  • Oh Come on Carpetbagger, it's a drop in the bucket compared to what we are about to lose when the city files for BK! Lighten up.

  • I don't think that the SAPOA will allow the city to BK if they have a deal in place. Now if Santa Ana defaults first, thats a different story. but the BK process is long and deliberate.

I think they'll just run it into the ground slowly, with stuff like this.

    Some SUNSHINE HUH Vince?

  • Good job, New Santa Ana! Finally! Somebody did some real investigating and came up with a dollar amount that is closer to the truth! Instead of automatically believing the council, I would say that everything that comes out of their mouths is suspect!! As for Tinajero's answer, WTF?! Doesn't he teach debate? He needs to stop hanging around Martinez and Reyna. His speech is beginning to be as unintelligible as theirs!

    • As an interesting side note; O'Rourke's peers say he panders shamelessly to his bosses and does absolutely nothing. These asylum-dwellers are lucky that Walters loaded up the reserves during his short stint as city manager. It may be the only thing that keeps them from going BK!

  • The example this council provides for young people is shameful.

Except for Pulido and Sariemento, not a single member of the council posesses the oratory skills to be Willard Class President.

Why doesn't someone in the liberal wing of the democratic party address this with them. get them into remedial english classes. SERIOUSLY.

While that will strengthen them and stymie progress at least we won't be the laughing stock of California.

If I were a parent at Fullerton High School, I would request an appointment with Mr. Tinajero to determine if he is as stupid as he sounds. If so, I would move to have him fired.

This is NO WAy to move the latino cause forward, to put these folks out there.

    • The voters vote for the candidate of their choice, and that includes their speaking skills.

Lawyers are English majors and know how to twist the language well. The Mayor has years of public speaking experience.

Council members mostly come from the general population and therefore the speaking skills are a representative of Santa Ana as a whole.

I think that is the way it should be.

      • Cook,

I am hard pressed to dispute what you say.

It was a considerate well thought out response.

Funny, this arguement elsewhere results in incredibly stupid comparisons to Abe Lincoln and George Washington. In a few sentences you make your point.

A point well taken, however, the current council is nearly unintelligable on matters of great concern. I point to Sal Tinajero's last two statements regarding Walters dismissial. Sal is a teacher, he is suppossed to have a better demeanor than he demonstrates.

I supose none of this really matters, what does is their actions. Their skills are merely representitive of their abilities.

      • Oh my God Cook,
Please go back and think about what you typed. Please let me remind you, it should not the practice of this council to govern from the LOWEST possible plateau, be it economically or morally. Maybe this thought will help you understand. "A rising tide lifts all boats"

    • "This is NO WAy to move the latino cause forward, to put these folks out there"....... Hmmmmmmm

That sounds like the Affirmative Action did not accomplished what it was suppose to accomplish, which was to "move the Latino cause forward" in expense of the scoring.

You are lucky that Green Go prevailed to struck down the bilingual education otherwise the council wouldn't speak any English but would speak bad Spanish.

You have done it to yourselves by calling Green Go racist. So Green Go got pissed off and left the Santa Ana.

It is your City now so sow us!

  • "you, me one Henrygattis and Beellzebub are all the same"......... Hmmmmmmm

But only I have a physical evidence about the truth!... HaHaaaaaHa..... HaaaaaaaHaHaaaaaa

    • What you have is complete delusion. I am offered you the opportunity to see the IP addresses on our comments and apparently that proved too difficult for you.

      • I have look at them, they are different, but I have demonstrated that I can post at this forum under hundreds of IPs from virtually all countries of the world.

So the IP is not an evidence especially when the only support in validity of IP is your statement "trust me I would never post under secondary IP".

The only way you can get out of this is to explain how the "carpetbagger" learn about Villasenor's brother where only you and I knew about it.

Forget about others just to me!

        And you can't do that.
