The Costa Mesa Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU), worked a narcotics investigation together with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) recently that yielded the arrest of two men in Costa Mesa.
The suspects, who had come from another county south of Orange County, were in possession of about 30 pounds of methamphetamine for sale.
30 pounds of methamphetamine is equivalent to 13,607.8 grams. The average price of a single gram of meth can vary anywhere from $20 to $500 depending on purity and location, though prices do not tend to exceed $100, according to Recovered. Assuming a value of $100 per gram the drugs seized by the Costa Mesa Police Department in this drug bust have a street value of over $1.3M.
A meth addict can spend between $12,800 and $38,300 per year on buying the quantities of meth needed to support their habit.
