The Santa Ana City Clerk has re-posted the Council Members’ total compensation and benefits today however a key piece of the puzzle is missing. The Santa Ana Open Government website does not include how much the City Council Members are paid to serve on various County Commissions.
I emailed the City Clerk, Maria Huizar, about this discrepancy and she pointed me to a different page – the Mayor and City Council page, where this information is found when you click on “Form 806.” Who in the public would know what the heck that is? The good news is that Huizar said she will look into my recommendation to put this information with the Council’s pay, on the Open Government page. We need to make it easier, not harder, for the voters to find out how much the City Council members really are earning.
As we posted this weekend, the Santa Ana Council Members are going to try to place a measure on the November General Election ballot that will result in a huge increase in their pay. But shouldn’t the City of Santa Ana be more transparent about how much the Council Members really earn when you factor in the pay and benefits that stem from their service on various County Boards?
Here is what the Council Members make by serving on various Boards:
All Santa Ana City Council Members also receive:
Our City Council Members are supposed to be part time public servants. If they can’t hold down real jobs they should not be asking us to pay them more but should instead resign from the City Council and let someone else serve.

The fact that Sariemento is getting FAMILY insurance is DISGUSTING. The guy is a millionare lawyer, who was recently quoted as saying asking him to concentrate "For more than a few hours" is impossible.
A better question would be is if P. David Benavides is recieveing health benefits from the SAUSD through his EX WIFE, isn't this double dipping. What about Sal and Angie.
I get Roman and Michele they are UNEMPLOYED.
Now you know why the VOC cut off comments in front of a controversial election!
Exactly.
David Benavides is the main proponent of this measure. The silence from those who would normally attack someone for supporting such a thing speaks volumes. Where are the Santa Ana Republicans that routinely attack the council on this issue? They love David so they remain silent.
Tell David and Roman to get a job! Being a Councilmember was never meant to be ones primary source of income.
The Usual Suspects must have cut a deal with David, who they have always adored. They want the pot shops closed and that is what he is now pushing even though he is also the guy who was pushing to keep bars open until 4 am.

You forgot the car. He toodles around town in an AQMD branded vehicle. One was a black Prius. I don't recall what the new one is (maybe a newer Prius?), but it's white. I have also personally seen him yakking on his phone (not hands-free) while doing "California stops" at stop signs.
The AQMD website sucks. They don't list all the perks offered to their Board members.
