Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do and Consul of Mexico Mario Cuevas to Unveil the Statue of Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico’s Founding Father in Mile Square Park

(Santa Ana, California) – Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do and the Consul of Mexico Mario Cuevas, will unveil the Statue of Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico’s Founding Father in Mile Square Park. The 8-foot tall Hidalgo statue, donated by Governor Miguel Marquez of the Mexican State of Guanajuato, will be unveiled at a free public event on July 8.

Supervisor Andrew Do, who organized the Mile Square Park statue project to honor champions of democratic values, said that the statue represents a symbol of friendship, unity and shared values between communities.

“I’m grateful to the Consulate of Mexico and Governor Miguel Marquez for their work in arranging this important symbol of the Latino community,” said Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do, who represents the First District on the Orange County Board of Supervisors. “For generations to come, visitors to Mile Square Park will understand the strong ties and unwavering friendship between the people of Orange County and the people of Mexico.”

The Consulate of Mexico and the Supervisor for the 1st District Office have worked together for more than a year on the project to celebrate Orange County’s ethnic diversity and recognize the contributions made by the Mexican community and all Latinos.

“The Miguel Hidalgo statue represents the universal values of independence, friendship and brotherhood our communities share”, said Mario Cuevas, Consul of Mexico in Orange County. “It is also a symbol of the valuable contributions made by the Mexican community in Orange County to the social and economic development in the region”.

The Hidalgo statue is the third in Supervisor Andrew Do’s Mile Square Park statue project, which incorporates Orange County’s unique history and diversity. Last summer, Supervisor Do unveiled a bronze statue of former President Ronald Reagan, who launched his 1984 presidential reelection campaign in Mile Square Park. A statue of 13th-century Vietnamese General Tran Hung Dao was unveiled at a January ceremony attended by more than a thousands guests, community leaders and dignitaries.

  • I have an idea. Why not have Supervisor Andrew Do ask the Consul of Mexico Mario Cuevas to erect a similar statue of George Washington in the central plaza of Guanajuato. It would be an ideal way to honor one of the greatest champions of democracy.

  • This is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!! What does this guy has to do with American History? I sure don't give a %^&$!!!!
