In the year since Los Angeles voters passed Measure B requiring condoms on porn sets, the county has seen a 95% drop off in film production. In 2012, 480 permits for adult films were filed in LA County. In 2013, only 24 such permits have been filed, according to California County News.
Diane Duke, CEO of the Free Speech Coalition (the adult film industry trade group), said the county has lost nearly $500,000 in revenue. In arguing against the condom requirement, she said performers test for HIV every 14 days, and nobody has contracted HIV from filming production in nearly a decade.
The coalition estimated that the drop-off amounts to $456,000 in lost revenues to local government, and said that those revenues and jobs have gone to other counties and, in some cases, out of state, according to the L.A. Times.
Ventura County passed a similar measure, driving porn movie productions out of their area too.
To my knowledge there is no such law in Orange County. Given that our County is broke shouldn’t our Supervisors reach out to the porno industry and offer our County as a nice place to shoot these films? I would imagine actors and actresses would be easy to find in our coastal communities.
For that matter the City of Santa Ana is broke too. They should be calling the porn producers right away! I know the City would love to have a half million dollars in their coffers…
