Scholarship Prep charter school in Santa Ana unveils a new inspirational mural

Santa Ana, Calif. (Feb. 26, 2024) — Scholarship Prep proudly unveils its latest artistic addition to the TK-2nd grade campus in Santa Ana: a vibrant mural crafted by acclaimed artist Brian Peterson. This captivating masterpiece, the second creation by the artist on our campus, promises to inspire and uplift our youngest Scholars.

The mural, a stunning blend of contemporary street art and profound symbolism, features renowned world changers and difference makers: Malala Yousafzai, Frida Kahlo, and Martin Luther King, Jr. With his signature use of vibrant colors and simplified geometries, Peterson captures the essence of the human spirit, creating an awe-inspiring backdrop for our students’ daily journeys.

Reflecting on his creation, Brian Peterson shared, “I am thrilled to contribute to the Scholarship Prep campus once again. It’s an honor to bring to life these iconic figures who embody resilience, creativity, and the pursuit of justice. My hope is that this mural will serve as a source of inspiration and empowerment for all who encounter it.”

Principal Chantel Van Pool expressed excitement about the mural’s installation, stating, “We are delighted to showcase Brian Peterson’s incredible talent on our campus. About Brian Peterson, Mural Artist

Brian Peterson is an artist based in Miami, Florida who works in Southern California. Brian’s use of vibrant colors and simplified geometries to capture the essence of the human spirit is what some have called a “contemporary street art” style. Drawing on his design background as an award-winning automotive designer and his Christian faith, Brian portrays his subjects in a form that is minimalistic, yet from a Heavenly perspective. Brian’s work can be seen in homeless shelters across the United States as well as gracing the walls of high-ends shopping facilities like Ovation Hollywood (formerly Hollywood & Highland) in Los Angeles.

Brian’s humanitarian and advocacy work, which began with painting his neighbors experiencing homelessness, has led him to be featured in BBC’s Amazing Humans, The Huffington Post, NPR, and a documentary film Faces of Santa Ana. His love for art, his community, and Jesus led him to found Faces of Santa Ana, a non-profit organization focusing on homelessness and the rehabilitation of his neighbors. Faces of Santa Ana has since expanded into Faces of Mankind, sprouting in cities across the US, such as Anaheim; Riverside, CA; Detroit, MI; Miami, FL; and Jackson, TN.
