DEMONSTRATION THIS SATURDAY
January 7, 2012 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
Come on out to our first demo of 2012. We continue to connect with lots of folks in support of preserving the Sexlinger Orange Orchard. Come on by to say hello, sign our petition or, leave a message to the Santa Ana Planning Department and City Council on a paper “orange.” We will have the signed oranges with your message attached to “trees” as a representation of our “orchard of support” to keep this orchard alive and well. Together we can stop the development project that has been proposed to the city of Santa Ana by TAVA Development Company and the owners of the orchard, Concordia University Irvine and Orange Lutheran High School.
Let’s preserve this last intact orchard that represents the rich agricultural history of Orange County.

Just went through the SOOC website and their proposal...perhaps someone can tell me how the owners of this private property are going to be compensated if it is saved?
I can't imagine that SOOC is expecting the owners to just abandon their 5 acres without compensation, but I am definitely not up to speed on this topic. Is SOOC trying to raise money to buy the property at a fair price or do they expect the owners to just give the property up?
These people need to put on the ballot a property tax measure for self assessment to raise the cash to buy the property. Then they can deed the property to the city as a restricted park land.
The city could sale the oranges to pay for the water and maintenance of the area and the local property owners can take pride in saving this plot of land with their own money.
Got it...if the public deems it appropriate, then we will all pay for it through ppty taxes and we will all be able to enjoy it. I was unclear as to whether the SOOC feels that they thought that the private land owners should just give the city their land.
