SAUSD to host a Latino Achievement Gap Summit today

The Santa Ana Unified School District is hosting a “Closing the Latino Achievement Gap, Orange County 2011 Summit,” on September 30, at Santa Ana College.  Click here to see the event flier.

Some 350 federal, state, local educational and community leaders, students and parents will come together at Santa Ana College to focus on the challenge, data and projections, legislative policy and fiscal issues, and best practices for bridging the achievement gap for Latino students and English language learners.

  • 9:45 – 10:30 a.m. Data Presentation: What does/doesn’t the data tell us regarding the needs of the Long Term English Learner? Speaker: Jose Moreno, Ed.D., CSU, Long Beach: Associate Professor, Chicano and Latino Studies Department
  • 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Keynote: Addressing the needs of the Long Term English Learner, Speaker: Patricia Gándara, Ph.D., UCLA: Professor, Graduate School of Education, Co-Director, The Civil Rights Project

The summit is open to educators, parents, residents, and elected officials in Orange County. Since this topic is of interest to many, the public is invited to register to participate in a free webinar that will offer access to the opening plenary and closing sessions.
