SAPD warns of a So. Cal. Edison fraud scheme that targets local businesses

Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Police Department advising the community of Southern California Edison Fraud Alert

Suspects posing as Southern California Edison employees have, once again, targeted Santa Ana business owners and scammed them out of over $2,600. The suspects pose as Edison employees and tell the victims their accounts are delinquent. The victims are then told their services will be terminated if they do not make a payment. The victims are instructed to immediately make their payment by using Green Dot Moneypak cards.

In March of 2013, the same suspects stole over $30,000 from business owners in Santa Ana. The suspects are now calling local residents using the same scam. At least six residents have been called in the last two months. Santa Ana Police Detectives have been working with Southern California Edison to investigate these cases. The Santa Ana Police Department would like to inform the public that calls like these are part of large scale criminal operation. As a reminder, never give your personal information to anyone over the telephone. There are many scams with criminals operating in the same manner. The public is urged to contact the police department if they have been a victim of this crime.
