On 3-29-2016 at 8:00am, Santa Ana and Garden Grove Robbery Detectives served a search warrant in the City of Fountain Valley at the home of Jose Angel Gutierrez. SAPD Detectives had been working the case along with GGPD Investigators and were able to identify Gutierrez as the suspect in a series of armed robberies that had been occurring at 7-11 stores, small liquor stores and gas stations throughout Orange County dating back to September 2015.

A white Chevy Malibu was seen on surveillance cameras being used as the get-away vehicle in some of the robberies. During the search warrant at the suspect’s residence, detectives located evidence linking the suspect to the crimes as well as a sawed off shotgun, two handguns, and illegal narcotics. Suspect Gutierrez was not found at the location.

A few hours later, Gutierrez was located in the Chevy Malibu believed to have been used in the robberies at a café in the area of Western Ave and Cerritos Ave, in Stanton. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and was armed with loaded handgun believed to have been used in the robberies. Some of the cartons of cigarettes that were recovered were taken from a robbery that morning in the City of Garden Grove.

Jose Angel Gutierrez was booked into the Orange County Jail on various charges including the March 29th robbery of a 7-11 store in the City of Garden Grove. His bail was set at $50,000. Suspect Gutierrez Bailed out of Jail and was assigned a court date of April 19th, 2016.

On April 20th, 2016, SAPD Robbery Detectives located suspect Gutierrez at his girlfriend’s residence in the 9700 block of Chanticlear Road in the City of Anaheim, where he was taken into custody without incident. Gutierrez was booked into the SAPD jail for the outstanding warrant as well as charges of robbery in two Santa Ana cases and three from the City of Garden Grove.
