SAPD and OCFA investigators are looking for suspects who are setting vehicles on fire

SAPD police investigators are looking for suspects in two reported vehicle fires in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.

The first incident happened this Thursday at around 10:25 p.m. when a man reported that his 2017 Lexus, which he had parked at the 1800 block of West Pendleton Avenue (just East of Adams Park) had caught fire, according to the SAPD.

The SAPD caught a break when they found surveillance video that showed a vehicle passing by and someone inside throwing an object in the direction of the Lexus just before the fire started. The OCFA has since investigated and has deemed the fire to be suspicious. No damage estimate was released – but a new Lexus can’t be very cheap!

Another incident occurred at around 2:10 a.m. on Friday. The SAPD was notified by a caller who said his neighbor’s 1998 Toyota 4Runner was on fire in the 5000 block of West 7th Street (just East of Rosita Park and the Salgado Community Center).

The neighbor who called the SAPD used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire involving the 4Runner. The vehicle was moderately damaged. Investigators are trying to find any relevant surveillance videos.

The SAPD has not released any names of suspects and so there have been no arrests. Fortunately no one was hurt in the fires. The police and the OCFA are not sure if the two incidents are related. Anyone with information about the fires is asked to call SAPD at 714-245-8665.
