The rollout of the Republic Services solid waste collection services for residential, multi-family, commercial, industrial, and construction and demolition customers is facing driver shortage challenges, similar to those that Waste Management experienced. These shortages reduced Waste Management’s ability to complete all service prior to the end of their agreement.
Although Republic Services was able to recruit a number of Waste Management drivers, there were drivers that failed their commitment on the first day of operation in Santa Ana, causing a shortage and delay of service. Republic Services is also collecting all accumulated trash not collected by Waste Management. Republic Services has tapped into its fleet and pool of drivers from other service areas to fill the gap.
Drivers are also driving new vehicles with new technology reducing their productivity but this will resolve over the next week or so. With a service transition of this size, additional issues are being identified and addressed as well.
In anticipation of these types of challenges, the City requested a contingency plan from Republic Services in order to plan for these challenges ahead of time. Republic Services has activated the plan and is working diligently in acquiring drivers and trucks from other areas and providers.

La implementación de los servicios de basura de Republic Services para clientes residenciales, multifamiliares, comerciales, industriales y de construcción y demolición está enfrentando una escasez de conductores, similar a lo que ocurrió con Waste Management. Failed to pick up our trash. Not a very good first impression . Thanks City of Santa Ana City council for making us pay more.
I agreed. Someone should received less " Bonus " money due to this failure. Not that the customer would received discount payment rate or anything...

The trash in Ward 3 still hasn't been picked up from last week. Last month, when it also wasn't picked up, the City of Santa Ana issued residents citations and fines because they left their cans on the street in hopes Republic would show up. When residents called Republic, Republic claimed they had no idea the trash hadn't been picked up. Republic also delivered extra trash cans to residents, which residents will be charged for. Will residents get a credit for missed trash service? No. Will the City help residents sort out the extra trash can problems? No. Will the City send a City truck to pick up residents' trash like Huntington Beach did during its garbageman strike? No. And yet residents will pay more for this "garbage" service.

Utter confused. I've been put on notice that the trash company was going to be changed months and months ago (at least 6 months from my recollection). In this whole time, they couldn't find workers nor trained them on the new equipment? Not only that, we received another notice not too long ago that they're thinking of raising the price. Worst AND more expensive service? Way to go. What exactly was the point of changing the vendor?
No trash pick has created an issue with cans sitting at curb for 4 days. Homeless picking through trash and leaving streets a mess.
Who ever is in charge of trash collection, get someone to pick up our trash neighbors are putting their trash in our trash cans. It’s been a week since it was supposed to be picked up. If the company is short staffed, then call a different company. This is really horrible business!!!
Absolutely ridiculous!! Im not getting my trashed picked up, and my bill is 60% higher than my monthly WM bill. Who the hell negotiated this contract. This needs to be investigated
