Santa Ana woman’s boyfriend arrested after her baby is placed on life support

Advisory: Detectives Investigating Child Abuse Case, Child Remains On Life Support

Arrested: Eduardo Centeno (25) Santa Ana

UPDATE: Sad to report one year old baby has passed away. Detectives are now investigating this case as a homicide.

On Monday, February 12, 2018, at approximately 7:56 AM, Santa Ana Police officers were dispatched to the Royal Roman Motel for a call of a one year old baby not breathing. Upon arrival, the child was found non-responsive and CPR was provided. Paramedics arrived and transported the child to Orange County Global Medical Center. The child was transferred to Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) where he remains in critical condition and on life-support.

The initial investigation and evidence revealed possible child neglect and/or abuse. Homicide Detectives were notified and responded to handle the investigation. SAPD Family Crimes Detectives are also assisting in the investigation. The victim’s mother and boyfriend suspect Eduardo Centeno were questioned by Homicide Detectives.

Based on their investigation Homicide Detectives booked suspect Eduardo Centeno into the SAPD Jail for CPC 273a(a)-Child Abuse, as well as two outstanding warrants for narcotics violations. The victim’s mother was released pending further investigation.
