Santa Ana woman pleads guilty to charges of carjackings in Irvine, Costa Mesa and Tustin

Jocelyn Cano of Santa Ana, a 23-year-old woman with a lengthy criminal history pleaded guilty on Monday and was immediately sentenced to nine years in prison for carjackings in Irvine, Costa Mesa and Tustin, according to the O.C. Register.

Cano flipped out on March 9, 2015, when she smashed the driver-side window of a 27-year old Huntington Beach resident’s 2011 Toyota Prius as he was stuck in traffic on the 73 Freeway going north. She ordered the victim out of his car and then took off in his vehicle.

She also stole a Volvo S80 from a motorist in Irvine at the 17000 block of Von Karman Ave. The Costa Mesa police found that vehicle abandoned with a flat right front tire.

Costa Mesa police found an abandoned Volvo S80 with a flat right front tire nearby, which had been stolen minutes earlier from an Irvine motorist in a parking lot in the 17000 block of Von Karman Avenue. That Volvo was stolen at knife-point as well.

There was also an attempted carjacking in Tustin at about 7 p.m. March 9, 2015, at the 3090 block of Edinger Avenue.

Cano was finally arrested on March 12, 2015, at her residence in Santa Ana residence. It turned out that she had a long criminal history that included arrests for  auto theft, burglary and narcotics, according to the Tustin police.

Cano pleaded guilty to two counts of carjacking, two counts of attempted carjacking, and a count each of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and criminal threats, all felonies, according to court records. She also admitted sentencing enhancements for personally using a deadly weapon.
