I spoke to Santa Ana City Clerk Maria Huizar today about the Term Limits measure that will be on the November ballot. This measure will limit the Mayor to eight years while allowing the City Council to serve up to 12 years.
My personal sentiment is that term limits are a limit on our freedom as voters to choose who we want to represent us. We already have the right to boot the mayor every two years.
I also think it is unfair for the Council to give themselves term limits of 12 years while limiting the Mayor to eight years. They should have the same limits!
Rob Cook, a resident of Ward #2, turned in a written argument against the term limit measure. Today I added my name to his submitted argument. Here it is:
Argument Against Measure _____
Over the years voting rights have been expanded to include non-property owners, and then men of color, and even woman, and Native Americans, and in 1972 the voting age was lowered to 18 to include America’s youth in the process too.
But, Term Limits are designed only to take away voter’s rights, the right of the voter to pick the candidate of the voter’s choice to represent the people in an elected office.
Term limits are a failed experiment and have created the only profession that requires only amateurs need apply.
The politicians and special interests cannot take away our voting rights. But as voters we can give up our rights in an election, and that is why this question is on the ballot.
Do not be fooled into giving up our right to vote. Vote “NO”. Keep our right to vote intact. It is the voter’s choice:
A “Yes” vote to give up another piece of our voting rights
A “No” vote to retain the right to vote for the candidate of our choice.

"I have written one too but I need a local organization to sign on to it as well"........ Hmmmmmmm
Make sure that you do that right this time Art. I recall that last time you, Martinez and Trojan Horse candidates have wrote an opposition and Claudia and I won on the ethic issue against the commissioners.
Do all the Santa Ana Council members support or oppose the ballot measure?
Why would the Mayors term be 8 years max and the Council 12 years max? What can a new Mayor do in just 8 years if the council will be around for 12? I'd LOVE to see a new Mayor and I like what I have heard from some of the candidates running but it seems like this might be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire!
I understand there are now 3 or 4 members of the Amezqua family on the ballot in November running for various offices. I've long admired this family and admire them all being so involved. They will be able to save a lot of money and limit their Carbon footprint by carpooling to candidate debates!

Actually, exhaling, belching and farting produces more CO2 emission from one person than from one car.

An obese person exhale, belch and fart exponentially more like cow.
Therefore, Amezquas, Tinajeros and other fatso families should comply with new California's cap-and-trade program.
