Santa Ana sexual assault suspect dies after being arrested, of medical complications

On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 8:19 P.M., Santa Ana Police Communications received a report of a male who sexually assaulted a female in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant. The subject was last seen running through a residential neighborhood.

Officers responded and located an adult male lying on the ground in the area of 1500 W. Stanford Street who appeared to be in medical distress. Orange County Fire Authority paramedics treated the victim and transported him to a local hospital where he was listed in critical but stable condition. 

Through their investigation, SAPD officers identified this individual as the suspect who committed the sexual assault. He was placed under arrest and was awaiting to be booked at the Santa Ana Jail after being released from the hospital.

Despite efforts from medical professionals at the hospital, the suspect was pronounced deceased on Friday October 6, 2023 at 1:20 P.M. as a result of underlying medical complications.

The Orange County Coroner’s Office identified the decedent as Xavier Rashawn Moore (31) of Santa Ana.

Detectives are attempting to identify and locate any witnesses who can provide additional information to this incident.
