Santa Ana receives 75 HUD housing vouchers for homeless veterans

City of Santa Ana

Community Alert: HUD-VASH Project-Based Vouchers Award

The City of Santa Ana is pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has awarded seventy-five (75) vouchers for homeless veterans to the Housing Authority of the City of Santa Ana. This supportive housing assistance is provided through the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program which combines rental assistance from HUD with case management and clinical services provided by the VA.

Following a competitive selection process, these HUD-VASH project-based vouchers (PBVs) will be attached to specific existing, new construction or rehabilitated units (very similar to the Orchard). These vouchers will provide permanent supportive housing using a Housing First model and ensure that homeless veterans who need services to live stably in their own homes receive them.

This award is valued at over $802,467 per year for our City to provide permanent supportive housing for homeless veterans. And Santa Ana was one of only 15 housing authorities awarded these vouchers statewide and one of only 39 nationwide.

The official announcement can be found here: http://portal.hud.gov/hudportal/HUD?src=/press/press_releases_media_advisories/2016/HUDNo_16-171
