Santa Ana now has 586 COVID-19 cases as of May 13

Today, May 13, the OC Health Care Agency reported a total of 3,749 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Orange County and 586 cases in Santa Ana. The Santa Ana case numbers don’t include infected inmates in County jails.

A total of 157 new cases were reported today as were three deaths. So far 80 victims in Orange County have died. There are currently 248 victims in local hospitals and 98 of them are in Intensive Care Units.

• Anaheim reports 581 cases
• Huntington Beach reports 272 cases
• Garden Grove reports 191 cases
• Orange reports 184 cases
• Irvine reports 144 cases
• Buena Park reports 110 cases
• Newport Beach reports 130 cases
• Fullerton reports 132 cases
• Westminster reports 63 cases
• Tustin reports 55 cases
• Costa Mesa reports 51 cases
• Fountain Valley reports 41 cases

The California Department of Public Health announced the most recent statistics on COVID-19. California now has 69,382 confirmed cases and 2,847 deaths, as of May 12.

The CDC reports these nationwide cases:

• TOTAL CASES: 1,364,061
• 21,467 New Cases
• TOTAL DEATHS: 82,246
• 1,426 New Deaths

Health Care Worker Infection Rates

As of May 11th, local health departments have reported 7,274 confirmed positive cases in health care workers and 39 deaths statewide. As data is updated the information is re-evaluated. In this instance, the number was adjusted accordingly and decreased by one.

How People Can Protect Themselves and Others

Every person has a role to play. Protecting yourself and your family comes down to common sense: 

• Staying home except for essential needs/activities
• Practicing social distancing.
• Wearing a cloth face mask when out in public.
• Washing hands with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds.
• Avoiding touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
• Covering a cough or sneeze with your sleeve, or disposable tissue. Wash your hands afterward.
• Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
• Staying away from work, school or other people if you become sick with respiratory symptoms like fever and cough.
• Following guidance from public health officials.

What to Do if You Think You’re Sick

Call ahead: If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough or shortness of breath), call your health care provider before seeking medical care so that appropriate precautions can be taken.
