Santa Ana man wanted for sexual assault arrested in Mexico

Santa Ana Police Department

Advisory: SUSPECT WANTED IN SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE IDENTIFIED AND APPREHENDED BY U.S. MARSHALS IN MEXICO

On 12/27/2016, at about 10:46 pm, an adult female was parking her vehicle near the 1600 Block of South Pacific Avenue in Santa Ana, when she was approached by a suspect. The suspect opened the driver’s side vehicle door, entered the vehicle and pulled down his pants, exposing himself to the victim.

The suspect forced himself on top of the victim and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim screamed and kicked violently, forcing the suspect off her and out of the vehicle. The suspect fled on foot west on Occidental Street.

Santa Ana Police Crime Scene Investigators processed the scene and victim vehicle for DNA evidence and photographs. The DNA was submitted to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Crime Lab for analysis. In February 2017, Santa Ana Detectives were notified DNA located on the victim’s vehicle matched Fabian Villa, 28, of Santa Ana.

Detectives located two additional victims of indecent exposure, who came forward after the press release regarding the 12/27/16 sexual assault. In each of those two cases, the suspect was driving a stolen white Toyota Camry, which was later recovered in San Diego with Villa’s identification left behind.

Santa Ana Detectives collaborated with Orange County District Attorney’s Office and U.S. Marshals, who learned that Villa fled to Mexico. U.S. Marshals worked with Mexican officials to locate Villa.

On 4/13/2017, Villa was located and returned to the United States to face charges with the help of the U.S. Marshal’s. Villa is being held at the Orange County Jail with a one-million dollar bail for the following charges:

• 220 (a) (1) PC – Assault with the intent to commit a sexual offense.
