Hazard Elementary School’s fifth-grade student Jackie Angeles, a cancer survivor,  lost her leg to cancer after her mother died of melanoma six years ago and her father suddenly died in his sleep Sunday, according to CBS News.

“When Principal Nanci Cole first met her, Jackie was a first-grade student being treated for bone cancer at Children’s Hospital Orange County. Jackie’s right leg had to be amputated, but her father Alberto was by her side every step of the way,” according to CBS News.

The amazing part of this story is that Jackie, who now lives with cousins, is still donating time at her school’s library.  She is giving to others even as she has lost everything.

The staff at Hazard Elementary School has set up the “Jackie Angeles fund,” to help Jackie.  To donate to this fund, please send your check to the Orange County Federal Credit Union at account number 92603942-1. You can also call Hazard Elementary School in Santa Ana at (714) 663-6403 or send email to Cole at ncole@ggusd.us.

Hazard Elementary School is in the Garden Grove Unified School District, which serves the west side of Santa Ana.
