Community Alert: PUBLIC INVITED TO RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY FOR GARFIELD EXERCISE PARK FEATURING OUTDOOR FITNESS ZONE ON MAY 20

SANTA ANA (May 14, 2014) – The public is invited to join Members of the City Council for the ribbon cutting ceremony at Garfield Exercise Park on Tuesday, May 20th at 4pm.

The Garfield Exercise Park features over $300,000 in improvements and will feature an Outdoor Fitness Zone with nine pieces of exercise equipment that can serve up to 25 people at a time.

The exercise equipment includes a lower body combination machine, an abs machine, a cross country ski machine, a back & triceps machine, a vertical press machine (wheelchair accessible), a lat pulldown machine (wheelchair accessible) , a chest press machine (wheelchair accessible) a sit-up, pull-up and dips station, and a leg press machine.

The Garfield Exercise Park was developed in response to a growing concern expressed by residents regarding the high rates of obesity in the community. A 2011 study found that outdoor exercise was associated with greater decreases in tension, confusion, anger and depression when compared to indoor activity. The park will be open to the public.
