Advisory: WANTED HOMICIDE SUSPECT & UNSOLVED 2011 GANG HOMICIDES

The Santa Ana Police Department Gang Unit investigated six gang related homicides in 2011. Four of the six homicides were solved with a total of seventeen suspects arrested. Two cases remain unsolved and one suspect remains at large. The Santa Ana Police Department offers up to $50,000 for information on gang-related homicides and assaults resulting in the arrest of the suspects.

Unsolved cases:

  • On 06/05/11, at approximately 2107 hour, officers responded to a shots fired call at 2401 S. Fairview Street. Upon arrival, they found 33-year-old Francisco Barboza lying on the sidewalk, bleeding from a gunshot wound. The Santa Ana Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced him deceased at the scene. The subsequent investigation revealed Mr. Barboza was walking on Fairview St. when an unknown male walked up to him and shot him.
  • On 11/02/11, at approximately 2047 hour, officers responded to a report of a traffic collision at the intersection of Grand Ave and Edinger St. Upon arrival, they found 36-year-old Juan Manuel Diaz and a passenger seated in their vehicle, both bleeding from gunshot wounds. The Santa Ana Fire Department Paramedics responded and pronounced Juan Manuel Diaz deceased at the scene. The passenger was transported to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana for treatment. The subsequent investigation revealed that Mr. Diaz was driving westbound on Edinger St. towards Grand Ave. when a black SUV type vehicle pulled along the passenger side of Diaz’ vehicle. An unknown suspect within the SUV fired several gunshots which killed Mr. Diaz. The suspect vehicle appears on security video from a nearby business as it fled the scene. Video is available to the media.
