Republic Services is debuting their new electric trash truck at the Santa Ana Library on 7/27

The Santa Ana community is invited to view the City of Santa Ana’s first electric recycling and waste collection truck on Thursday, July 27, 1-3 p.m. behind the Main Library, 26 Civic Center Plaza.

This is Republic Services’ first electric recycling and waste collection truck in California. The truck is also the first of its kind: a combination of technologies from Peterbilt and McNeilus, it was made possible through the City’s agreement with Republic Services for recycling and waste collection services.

The vehicle is quiet running, and expects reduced maintenance resulting in continuous service. This vehicle features excellent visibility, requires no oil changes, results in less brake wear and regenerative braking, achieves fuel savings and zero emissions.

The new truck is expected to service 1,200 homes on a single charge, lasting 10 to 14 hours, operating continuously for 80 miles, and is recharged within four hours. This automated side-loading truck will service residential recycling and waste carts, collecting data on the efficiency and reliability of the technology, which will speak to future production of vehicles.
