REP. SANCHEZ SUPPORTS REAUTHORIZING TRADE ADJUSTMENT ASSISTANCE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) last night voted in favor of an extension of the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) Act. The TAA program provides retraining opportunities to American workers laid off as a result of foreign trade. Rep. Sanchez joined a strong bipartisan majority to pass the extension, which will extend the TAA through December 2013.

“The Trade Adjustment Assistance Act will give thousands of American workers the job training and placement assistance they need to succeed in a difficult job market and an increasingly global economy,” said Sanchez. “I am proud to support a long-term extension of this highly-effective program.”

The TAA extension will renew reforms made to the TAA program in 2009, such as expanded eligibility for workers in the service sector. It also provides TAA workers with access to income support for their families as they undergo job training and provides health care benefits to workers’ families.

The TAA Act has passed both the House of Representatives and the Senate and awaits the President’s signature.

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is proud to represent California’s 47th Congressional District, which includes the cities of Anaheim, Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and parts of Fullerton in Orange County. She serves as Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces and a senior member of the Committee on Homeland Security. Rep. Sanchez is also a member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition and sits on the bipartisan, bicameral Joint Economic Committee.
