Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido, City Elected Officials, Public Safety, and Transportation Advocates Submit Signatures Needed to Qualify Statewide Ballot Measure to Protect Local Funds From State Raids

November 2010 Ballot Measure Will Stop Sacramento Politicians from Raiding Funding for Vital Local Services including Public Safety and Emergency Response, Transportation, Transit Projects, and Infrastructure.

Santa Ana, CA – Mayor Miguel Pulido will join with fellow Orange County local government officials, transportation, business, public safety, and public transit leaders on Thursday, April 29 at 10:00 a.m. on the front steps of Santa Ana City Hall to announce submission of nearly 1.1 million signatures to qualify the Local Taxpayer, Public Safety and Transportation Protection Act for the November 2010 General Election.

The Local Taxpayer, Public Safety and Transportation Protection Act is a constitutional amendment that would stop the State Legislature from raiding, diverting or borrowing funding for local police and fire, street and road repair, public transit, local infrastructure and other vital services. For too long State government has plundered local revenues when they can’t balance their billion-dollar budget deficits, this measure would end that shameful practice once and for all.

Hundreds of local government, public safety, business, and transportation leaders participated in a massive volunteer signature gathering effort to qualify the measure. State law requires 694,354 valid signatures to qualify a constitutional amendment for the statewide ballot. By turning in 1.1 million, qualification is virtually guaranteed.

WHEN: Thursday, April 29, at 10:00 a.m.
