One suspect arrested after an armed home invasion in Westminster

Four armed robbers broke into a home at the 8900 block of Westminster on Sep. 11, at around 10:40 p.m. They held a family at gunpoint and demanded the family’s valuables.

Fortunately one of the family members, an adult woman, eluded the robbers. She hid in a closet and was able to call 911.

Westminster police officers responded to the residence and when they arrived they saw four armed male suspects running from the home.

Danny Sommay, a 29-year-old Banning resident, was the only suspect arrested. The officers saw him throw his firearm over a brick wall. They were able to take him into custody. The gun turned out to be a loaded 9mm handgun that had been reported stolen.

There were five victims including the elderly woman, an adult male and female, and a 14-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl.

Investigators were told that the masked suspects ,forced their way into the house at gunpoint. One of the suspects used a stun gun on the adult male, knocking him to the ground. The male adult victim, the two children and the elderly woman were all tied up as the suspects attempted to find their valuables. Only the adult woman eluded them and fortunately she had her cell phone handy.
