OC Young Democrats mixer to feature the head of the Assoc. of OC Deputy Sheriffs

The Orange County Young Democrats are hosting their monthly mixer on July 9, 2014, at 7 pm, at Bistro 400, in Downtown Santa Ana.  The meeting will feature guest speaker Tom Dominguez, the President of the Association of OC Deputy Sheriffs, who are in the process of getting a raise from the Orange County Board of Supervisors.  Perhaps Dominguez will be buying everyone drinks?

The proposed two-year labor deal from county supervisors includes a pay hike and improved health coverage to partly cover the requirement that deputies pay all of their employee pension payments in year 2 of the deal, according to the OC Register.

Hopefully someone at the mixer will ask Dominguez why he is not lobbying for the OC Sheriff’s Department to take over the Santa Ana Police Department.  Other cities have contracted with the Sheriff’s Department and saved money while putting more cops on the streets.

There is not much for the Orange County Democrats to celebrate right now.  Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, a Democrat elected to represent the 65th Assembly District in 2012, was beaten in the June Primary Election this year.  Although she advanced to the General Election she is in real trouble as her Republican opponent, Young Kim, has proven to be a tenacious fundraiser.

The Democrats are also still reeling from losing control of the Irvine City Council.  It is highly unlikely that they will retake control of Irvine in the November elections.

Bistro 400 is located at 400 W 4th St, in Santa Ana.
