SANTA ANA, California (December 27, 2013) – The Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests from local routine traffic enforcement and ‘Avoid the 38’ DUI deployments during the past several days in Orange County.
From 12:01 a.m. on Friday, December 13 through midnight on Thursday December 26, officers representing 38 county law enforcement agencies have arrested 597 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2012, 694 DUI arrests occurred during the same fourteen (14) day time period. There have been no DUI related deaths reported. (NOTE: These numbers are only provisional with some agencies yet to report).
For the third weekend and final six days of the Winter Holiday DUI campaign, the cities of Anaheim, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, and La Habra will be conducting a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint. A multi-agency DUI/driver’s license checkpoint will also be conducted in the cities of Santa Ana and Westminster. The cities of Tustin and Westminster will both be deploying extra DUI saturation patrols and multi-agency DUI saturation patrols will also be deployed in the cities of Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, and Westminster, along with the cities of Anaheim and Placentia.
The CHP will be deploying all available officers for their next maximum enforcement period during the New Year’s Eve holiday period beginning on Tuesday, December 31 at 6:00 p.m. until midnight on Wednesday, January 1, 2014.
All regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers will focus efforts on stopping and arresting DUI drivers during their normal shifts. Multiple DUI/driver’s license checkpoints, multi-agency DUI task force operations and local roving DUI patrols are all part of this region-wide crackdown during the 20 day Winter Holiday Campaign.
Police, Sheriff and the CHP encourage all motorists to help make your community safer by reporting drunk Drivers by calling 9-1-1. Grant funding for this program is provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
DUI arrest data collection will continue through New Year’s Weekend, midnight Sunday, January 1, 2014.
