O.C. Supervisors offer a former inmate $480K after her baby died when Deputies stopped for coffee on the way to the hospital

Sandra Quinones, a woman who has been described as homeless, suffering from PTSD and mentally ill, will get a $480,000 settlement from the County of Orange after she lost her baby while she was an Orange County jail inmate.

Quinones was in jail on March 28, 2016, when she pushed the call button in her jail cell after her water broke. The jail staff did not respond for two hours.

The jail staff finally did respond to Quinones but they did not call for an ambulance. Instead Quinones was given a ride to the Anaheim Global Medical Center by O.C. Sheriff Deputies. Those deputies however opted not to go straight to the hospital. Instead they stopped at a Starbucks.

When Quinones finally made it to the hospital and her baby was born but it did not survive.

The Orange County Supervisors approved the payment unanimously at their meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 23, however Quinones must formally accept the settlement before it can become final.
