O.C. State Senator Dave Min got busted for a DUI

State Senator Dave Min, a Democrat who represents a sliver of Santa Ana and most of Costa Mesa and Irvine, admitted on his Facebook page that he was busted for a DUI. Min was released from Sacramento County jail Wednesday, according to Sacramento Sheriff’s Department records. Was he celebrating Taco Tuesday a bit too much?

Here is his Facebook post:

Last night I was cited for a misdemeanor for driving under the influence. My decision to drive last night was irresponsible. I accept full responsibility and there is no excuse for my actions. To my family, constituents and supporters, I am so deeply sorry. I know I need to do better. I will not let this personal failure distract from our work in California and in Washington.

Min’s bio says that he is a nationally-recognized expert on economic policy who has “taken on Wall Street greed and fought to strengthen the middle class for nearly two decades.”

Min previously worked as an enforcement attorney at the Securities and Exchange Commission, as an economic and financial policy advisor to Senator Chuck Schumer, and as an economic policy director at the Center for American Progress.

Ironically Min and his wife Jane settled both teach at the UC Irvine School of Law. We have to wonder if this DUI will cost him that job?

Most DUI cases are misdemeanors. To be a felony, there must be an accident with great bodily injury while DUI, or three or more prior DUI convictions, according to Robert L. Miller, a renowned DUI attorney in Orange County. He also explains that “The minimum for first time DUI charges includes three years of probation, fines, and fees that approximate 2000, and attendance at an alcohol school. The maximum can add up to 180 days (six months) in jail, or community service or a labor program that equals that amount of jail time.”

Min has three children and he should be very embarrassed about driving drunk.

We don’t expect Min to resign his State Senate seat but he is also running for the Congressional seat being vacated by Rep. Katie Porter (D-Irvine). He should pull out of that race immediately! He should also consider loading the Uber app on his cell phone.
