Property Tax Payment Deadline is next Wednesday!
Orange County Treasurer-Tax Collector Shari Freidenrich today reminds Orange County taxpayers that the second installment of property taxes is due no later than Wednesday, April 10, 2013. Payments not received by Wednesday, unless they have a United States Postal Service stamp on or before April 10, will incur a 10% late penalty fee. Current second installment secured tax receipts are approximately 1.5% ahead of the same time last year with $69.8 million more in property taxes being received. Total secured tax receipts are $144.5 million ahead of the same time last year.
“Last year, we received over 50% of property tax payments electronically and taxpayer payments online by eCheck are the fastest growing payment method,” stated Treasurer Freidenrich. On December 10, 2012, our website had over 9,000 page views. “This secure online payment option using your bank account is free to the taxpayer, and is the most cost-effective way for us to process property tax payments.” Taxpayers can make payments using this method up to midnight on April 10 by going to ocgov.com/octaxbill or scanning the QR code below. Taxpayers can also include their e-mail address to have their payment receipt e-mailed directly to them.
Taxpayers, who need a copy of a prior year’s tax bill in order to complete their State or Federal income tax returns by April 15, can view and print their 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13 tax bills online 24/7 using the Treasurer’s website at ocgov.com/octaxbill. In addition, consider signing up to receive a tax reminder by registering your e-mail with the Treasurer. A reminder e-mail will go out approximately ten days before and again one day prior to the last timely payment date. An e-mail will also go out when the 2013-14 secured tax bills are available online. Taxpayer can register their e-mail address at ocgov.com/taxreminder.
If a taxpayer pays using a bank’s or other on-line payment site, please make sure the payee is listed as the “County of Orange” and include the APN number as the account number, exactly as it shows on the tax bill. Payments not received by the Treasurer from the bank by April 10, 2013 will incur a late fee penalty of 10% of the amount due. As it may take several days and possibly up to a week to receive these payments, we encourage taxpayers to pay using the Treasurer’s secure online site to avoid a potential penalty.
