O.C. pickaxe attacker arrested

Lake Forest, Ca. (May 24, 2023): Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies at 11:54 a.m. on Monday, May 22, were dispatched to the 22000 block of Robin Street regarding a vehicle that collided into a house.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Tyler Scott Graves, 32, of Trabuco Canyon, ran from the collision scene to the 22000 block of Pheasant Street where he obtained a pickaxe and began to chase two male victims.

Upon arrival, deputies contacted the suspect inside a residence on Pheasant Street who was holding the pickaxe. Deputies directed the suspect to drop the weapon, but he refused. Deputies deployed less-lethal shotgun “bean bag” rounds and a taser was used to apprehend the suspect.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital and medically treated. He has been booked into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of violating CPC 245(a)(1) – assault with a deadly weapon, CPC 417(a)(1) – exhibiting a deadly weapon (non-firearm) and CPC 148(a)(1) – resisting, obstructing, delaying a peace officer.

If anyone has additional details that may assist investigators, they are asked to contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Department at 714-647-7000. Anonymous information may be provided through Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
