New poll shows Senate candidate Steve Garvey will make it to the General Election

Los Angeles — A new poll conducted by WPA Intelligence from Feb. 19 to 21, paid for by the Steve Garvey campaign, shows Adam Schiff at 27%, Steve Garvey at 24%, Katie Porter at 15%, Barbara Lee at 10%, and Garvey leading with No Party Preference voters at 27%.

These results mirror the results shown in the recent Emerson College Polling/Inside California Politics/The Hill poll that was conducted Feb. 16 to 18.

“It’s clear from this poll that the California Senate race is shaping up to be highly competitive, said WPA Intelligence partner, Bryon Allen Ph.D. “The narrow gap between Adam Schiff and Steve Garvey underscores a significant shift in voter sentiment, particularly among No Party Preference voters, where Garvey has emerged as the preferred candidate. This trend is consistent with other recent polls, including the recent Emerson College Polling survey, indicating a solidifying base of support for Garvey that transcends traditional party lines. As we move into the general election, it’s essential to watch these dynamics closely, as No Party Preference voters are likely to play a pivotal role in determining the outcome of this race.”

According to the poll, voters indicated that illegal immigration and border security is their top issue at 27%, inflation, cost of living, and housing costs is their second at 20%, and protecting women’s rights to choose is third at 7%.

Methodology

WPAi conducted a poll of n = 800 likely primary voters in California. Data was collected February 19-21, 2024, by live telephone interview. Sixty-five percent (65%) of interviews were conducted to cell phones and 35% to landline phones. The sample was selected from the California voter file and was stratified by geography, age, gender, party registration, ethnicity, educational attainment, and vote history to ensure a representative sample. The survey has a margin of error of +3.5% at the 95% confidence level.

About Steve Garvey:

Garvey, a former professional baseball player who played as a first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres from 1969 to 1987, was a 10-time All-Star, National League Most Valuable Player in 1974, and National League Championship Series MVP in 1978 and 1984. Garvey also holds the National League record for consecutive games played (1,207) and was named baseball’s “Iron Man” by Sports Illustrated. Garvey was part of the Dodgers’ infield that won four National League pennants and one World Series championship in 1981.
