More housing for homeless women coming to Santa Ana

Yesterday the Santa Ana City Council celebrated the groundbreaking of the WISEPlace permanent supportive housing project that will provide homes for 47 women who are experiencing homelessness.

This adaptive reuse project, which was supported by $5.2 million in City funds and 25 project-based vouchers, will rehabilitate and convert an existing one-story historic building, known as the Santa Ana-Tustin YWCA, into offices, a training center, community room, and residences.

Mayor Valerie Amezcua and Mayor Pro Tem Jessie Lopez joined in the groundbreaking, and Councilmember David Penaloza was in attendance.

WISEPlace has served the Santa Ana community for nearly 100 years, providing women with safe shelter, counseling and mental health services, case management, employment assistance and more to help rebuild their lives. They are partnering with nonprofit housing developer Jamboree on the project.

The City of Santa Ana is proud to be involved in yet another project that will help our homeless population and create new affordable housing. Santa Ana continues to lead the way!
