More daytime and nighttime I-5 Freeway construction at Main St. this week

The I-5 Central Corridor HOV Project is scheduled for daytime construction to perform guardrail work on Main Street south of Walkie Way from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020. This work requires the closure of the Southbound Main Street right-most curb lane from Walkie Way to just south of Edgewood Road. If possible, please avoid this area during this time to avoid traffic delays and use Broadway southbound instead of Main Street.

Construction crews are also scheduled to perform nighttime electrical and guardrail work for the Northbound and Southbound I-5 Freeway from 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, to 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2020. This work requires the following nighttime closures:

• Northbound I-5: Right lanes between First and Fourth streets and SR-22
• Northbound I-5: 17th Street off-ramp
• Northbound I-5 Connector to Westbound SR-22
• Southbound I-5: Bristol Street/La Veta Avenue off-ramp
• Southbound I-5: Collector road between the SR-57 Connector and Main Street
• Southbound I-5: Right lanes between the SR-57 Connector and Fourth Street
• Eastbound SR-22 Connector to Southbound I-5

During this time, please avoid using the I-5 freeway through Central Orange County between SR-55 and SR-22, in both directions and utilize the SR-55 and SR-22, instead.

OCTA and Caltrans’ construction team has been able to expedite this work while traffic demand was lower due to COVID-19 reduced travel demand. Should you have questions or issues with the construction please call (800) 724-0353 or e-mail central5fwy@octa.net.

This project has added an additional carpool lane in each direction on I-5 between SR-55 and SR-57 to reduce traffic congestion, bottlenecks, encourage ride-sharing and improve traffic flow. Construction was originally scheduled to be completed in early 2021 but is substantially ahead of schedule. To sign up for construction alerts or for more information, visit www.octa.net/i5Central.

Dates and times are subject to change if there is inclement weather or if there are unforeseen construction constraints.
