Millions Headed To Streets and Signals Through Measure M
OCTA board allocates more than $44 million for road improvements
ORANGE – Cities throughout the county will see an influx of more than $44 million for street and signal synchronization projects through the Measure M Comprehensive Transportation Funding Program.
Funding was awarded recently to 27 projects that will widen existing streets to alleviate congestion and synchronize traffic signals to ensure drivers hit the most green lights during peak traffic periods.
Projects that received funding are in Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Irvine, La Habra, Laguna Beach, Laguna Woods, Mission Viejo, Newport Beach, Orange, San Juan Capistrano, Santa Ana, Westminster and the County of Orange.
A call for projects was issued by OCTA in August, making available $35 million for Regional Capacity Program projects and $12 million in Regional Traffic Signal Synchronization Program projects. The project applications were reviewed by OCTA’s Technical Advisory Committee and funding was granted based on eligibility, consistency and adherence to the guidelines and M2 Program objectives.
Some of the regional capacity projects include:
· Newport Boulevard Widening (Via Lido to 30th Street) in Newport Beach
· Ortega Highway Improvement Project in San Juan Capistrano
· Brookhurst Street from I-5 to SR-91 in Anaheim
Some of the signal synchronization projects include:
· Birch Street/Rose Drive in Brea
· Bristol Street in Costa Mesa
· El Toro Road in Laguna Woods
