Could State Senator Lou Correa, who is terming out this year, be thinking of running for Mayor of Santa Ana? That is what I heard today from Vern Nelson, the editor of the Orange Juice Blog. Nelson cited an anonymous source in Sacramento when I spoke with him this afternoon.
It makes a lot of sense. Correa has huge name I.D. and he lives here in Santa Ana, in the Floral Park Neighborhood. Why not run for Mayor?
I suppose it depends on what our current Mayor, Miguel Pulido, will do in November but it sure looks like me might retire from local politics. And even if he didn’t, a Correa campaign would squash him and anyone else.
What about the other mayoral challenger? You know, Councilman Roman Reyna. No worries. He simply isn’t fit to be Mayor and a Correa campaign would squash him too.
You have to wonder if Correa would later advocate to turn our Mayor’s office into a full time job – the strong Mayor model. But then again I suspect Correa will get a lucrative job as a consultant and/or a lawyer after he leaves Sacramento.
Mayor Correa? It has a nice ring to it! And he is such a strong personality that the limp-wristed Council Members would have no choice but to bow down. He is a good man and would make, I think, an awesome Mayor. He is also a moderate and that is a good thing in a community that isn’t liberal at all, but is largely Democratic.
Might Correa run for Supervisor instead, if the incumbent, Janet Nguyen, defeats Jose Solorio in November? I suppose he might but then again he might be happier working somewhere as a consultant while serving as our Mayor.

What frightens me with this senario is that he would pull a Jose Solorio and merely use the position as a "holder" while waiting to make his nex move. That would do a HUGE disservice to Santa Ana.
Given the choice, I think he'd go back to the BOS, but then again politics makes for strange bedfellows. He has shown up at three of the last five council meetings??
Sounds like he's testing the water.
The city has no more faith with mister pulido...Lou would make an awesome mayor by far...
Lou would make an excellent mayor for SA - but that "consultant" thing bothers me. Isn't that one of the things that many have been ragging on Pulido about ... mysterious "consultant" fees?
In Correa's case he could legitimately offer his expertise as a former legislator and attorney to companies who are trying to deal with Sacramento.
He could also offer his "consultant services" to those dealing with and within Santa Ana - that is concerning.
Correa is an ethical guy. That's the difference between him and the yahoos on our City Council.
I thought you were a cheerleader for your dear Mayor Pulido.
He was the better candidate compared to Alfredo Amezcua and David Benavides. But Correa would be superior to them all.
Editor -
"He was the better candidate compared to Alfredo Amezcua and David Benavides. But Correa would be superior to them all."
Bullcrap!! You were so far up .... well, let's just say that you were/are disgusting when it came to your support & defense of Pulido.
Are you seriously going to argue that Amezcua and Benavides were better candidates? That's a complete joke.
At the very least you should have been neutral - not a Pulido sycophant.
Being neutral might have allowed those awful candidates to win. I couldn't allow that. But I have always maintained that if a better candidate came along I would support him. And now perhaps that may be happening.
This was the argument at the VOC, which those morons never understood. It wasn't that Pulido was so good. It is that Martinez, Amezcua and Benavides were so BAD. Now they are floating Roman Reyna?
There is a saying about the devil you know......
Get a decent candidate.
Exactly. Now we may finally have one!
I for one, have a hard time believeing that "Seamus McDuff" and his half dozen aliases believe that any of the liberal, socialistic, democrat politco's being more suitible for office than Pulido.
If Mike is to be believed, he is way dumber than I thought and he should stick to welding and cutting. To think that Roman Reyna has the education or emotional maturity to manage a meeting, let alone a city of nearly half a million people, is absolutely respective of his intelligence and politics.
As a suppossed "devout" Catholic, I would hope "Seamus" would consider Benavides personal history FIRST. In the words of Vito Corleone: "A man who doesn't spend time with his family, can NEVER be a real man". PDB is a hooker, a pimp and a bad character. I'll take Pulido, warts and all over a guy like Benavides.
You appear to be a man of convienence "Seamus".
So who's donating to the mayors defense fund,so who's the real men here...
You can pull that list from the CA Secretary of State. It is a public record.
Hey Stan have donated to puildos defense fund ?
Stanley isn't a fan of Pulido.
