Man charged with with illegally reimbursing contributors for Janet Nguyen’s 2012 campaign

MAN CHARGED WITH ILLEGALLY REIMBURSING CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTORS OVER $13,000 TO BE ARRAIGNED

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) has charged a man with illegally reimbursing contributors for Janet Nguyen’s 2012 Orange County Board of Supervisors election campaign. Son Truong Nguyen, 38, Fountain Valley, is charged with 10 misdemeanor counts of unlawful contribution. If convicted on all counts, the defendant faces a maximum sentence of one year in Orange County jail and a $10,000 fine. Charges were filed Oct. 28, 2015, and an arraignment letter was sent out yesterday for Son Nguyen to appear in court on Nov. 24, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-54, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

Between Nov. 2, 2011, and Jan. 30, 2012, Son Nguyen is accused of illegally reimbursing campaign contributors for Janet Nguyen’s 2012 Orange County Board of Supervisors election on 10 different occasions. He is accused of reimbursing a total of $13,300.

The OCDA is investigating this case and is pursuing additional suspects. Anyone with additional information or who believes they have been a victim is encouraged to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Dina Mauger at (714) 664-3960.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Cynthia Nichols of the Special Prosecutions Unit is prosecuting this case.
