A man named Loc Ba Nguyen has been arrrsted and charged with smuggling tools into the Orange County Jail that helped three inmates escape on Jan. 22, according to the OC Register.
Nguyen is looking at a possible sentence of five years and four months in a state prison for smuggling the tools.
The OCDA also announced that the 44-year-old ESL teacher arrested on suspicion of giving one of the escapees a map, Nooshafarin Ravaghi, will be released soon. Her charges were postponed for two weeks while the Sheriff’s Department continues their investigation of her alleged involvement in the escape.
The three escaped inmates — Hossein Nayeri, 37, Jonathan Tieu, 20 and Bac Duong, 43 — who are all back in custody are being charged today in the escape.
Nayeri’s trial on his charges of kidnapping and torturing a Santa Ana marijuana dispensary owner will start as originally scheduled on Feb. 23.
Tieu’s trial, for charges involving a gang shooting, will start on March 18.
Duong’s trial, for charges of attempted murder in Santa Ana, has not been set.
