We have been wondering for a few weeks now how it is that an unknown former Democrat from Lake Forest named Sherry Walker ended up on the ballot as a Republican nominee for the 69th Assembly District in this June’s Open Primary Election. Now we know. A reader forwarded us the nomination signatures that Walker turned in to the Orange County Registrar of Voters. You can check out the signatures for yourself by clicking here.
Popular SAUSD Trustee Ceci Iglesias, a Republican as well, should have no problem advancing to the November Runoff Election but nevertheless putting Walker on the ballot was a dirty trick and now we know who did it.
Two names jumped out from the list of voters who signed Walker’s nomination papers – former SAUSD Trustee Rosie Avila and crazed Minuteman Lupe Moreno. Now isn’t that interesting? These two ladies like to pretend that they are Christian stalwarts but here they are trying to undermine the campaign of a fellow believer, Iglesias. What gives?
I’ll tell you what I think this comes down to. Iglesias is an immigrant, from El Salvador, and she supports the Dream Act. If there is one thing that connects Avila to Moreno it is their mutual dislike of immigrants.
So did Moreno and Avila declare war on Iglesias as some sort of favor to the incumbent in the 69th A.D., Tom Daly? Or did they put Walker on the ballot simply as their way of propagating hatred against immigrants? Or could it be that they just aren’t very bright?
Daly, a Democrat, is probably a favorite of the inbred wing of the OC GOP as he is about as anti-immigrant as they come. As the former Mayor of Anaheim he has a long history of acting against Latinos and poor families. He mercilessly attacked Anaheim’s poorest families who live in motels. And he opposed a Latino supermarket that wanted to open in Anaheim. He also supports the giveaway of millions of taxpayer dollars to a wealthy hotel developer who wants to build a new hotel in Anaheim at public expense. And Daly is opposed to Ward Specific City Council elections in Anaheim, which would actually diversify a City Council that is absent of any Latinos.
Rumor had it when Walker got on the ballot that OC GOP activist Tim Whitacre had something to do with it but I spoke to him last week and he denied it. Moreno has been allied with him in the past but she has also worked with fellow OC GOP activist Thomas Gordon. I think however that Gordon has since parted ways with her.
Shame on Moreno and Avila for trying to undermine a great candidate in Iglesias. Hopefully the OC GOP will finally realize what a cancer Moreno and Avila are and give them the boot going forward.
