Leading Assembly candidate Michele Martinez lands big endorsements

While the Disney Company, through the SOAR PAC, has been propping up Tom Daly’s lame campaign for the 69th Assembly District, he is being outworked by his leading opponent – Santa Ana Councilwoman Michele Martinez.  Just look at the endorsements she has racked up thus far:

  • Assemblyman Ben Hueso
  • Assemblyman Roger Hernandez
  • Assemblyman Ricardo Lara
  • Assemblyman Henry Perea
  • Assemblyman Jose Solorio
  • Ret. Senator Martha Escuita
  • Ret. Assemblywoman Cindy Montanez
  • Ret. Assemblyman Alberto Torrico
  • Santa Ana, Mayor Miguel Pulido
  • Santa Ana, Councilmember David Benavides
  • Santa Ana, Councilmember Sal Tinajero
  • Santa Ana, Councilmember, Vince Sarmiento
  • Garden Grove, Councilmember, Dina Nguyen
  • Garden Grove, Former Councilmember, Mark Rosen
  • Brea, Councilmember, Ron Garcia
  • Lake Forest, Councilmember, Kathryn McCullough
  • San Juan Capistrano, Councilmember, Laura Freese
  • Montebello School Board, Gerri Guzman
  • Cudahy, Mayor Josue Barrios
  • El Monte, Councilmember, Joseph Gonzalez
  • Bell Gardens, Sergio Infanzon
  • Southgate, Jorge Morales
  • Hawthorne, Mayor Protem, Alex Vargas
  • Hawthorne, School Board, John Vargas
  • Santa Ana, Planning Commissioner, Eric Adelrete
  • Santa Ana, Planning Commissioner, Patrick Correa
  • Santa Ana, Planning Commissioner, Sean Mill
  • Santa Ana, Housing and Redevelopment Commissioner, Lynnette Verino
  • Santa Ana, Housing and Redevelopment Commissioner, Monica Garcia
  • Santa Ana, Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Ken Nguyen
  • Santa Ana, Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Max Madrid
  • Santa Ana, Youth Chair Commissioner, Jonathan Espinoza
  • Santa Ana, Environmental and Transportation Commissioner, Don Cribb
  • Santa Ana, Environmental and Transportation Commissioner, Kim Olson
  • HOPE, PAC
  • (Partial Listing)
Impressive!  And I hear she has a good shot at landing the endorsement of the California Assembly Latino Caucus.
Martinez notes on her website that “the newly reapportioned Assembly district is extremely diverse- it has a population that is 78.3% Latino, 9.7% Asian and 1.5% African American (2010 Census). ”  All the more reason to elect Martinez, not Daly.
Click here to get involved in her campaign and click here to contribute to the effort.
What about the other Democratic candidate?  Well, Julio Perez continues to be unknown in the district and the Disney Company took away his biggest campaign issue when they settled their contract with their hotel workers.  Game over for Perez!

  • @Stanley: My understanding from other conversations is that your given name is Stanislaw Fiala. If I'm wrong about the first name, then I do apologize; if you changed your name to Stanley, then I'll call you Stanley. Just let me know. I do not that think my calling you by your given name is "anti-Gentile." I find your suggestion that this is somehow the equivalent of calling me "Jew Zionist" to be bizarre, but that's not my problem.

    @Sean:

    (1) The only reason for moderating all comments is to allow for censorship. If you want to have a free forum, that's great! But right now -- you don't have one. You moderate all comments. You assert the right to pick and choose. Don't claim the mantle of free speech. I've just noted that to the extent you do pick and choose -- as some do, for example, to eliminate florid bigotry -- you make some curious choices.

    (2) I think that I've left only one or two comments, ever, on Lib OC. I just don't go there. So, no, I haven't complained, because ... I just don't go there. As for whether any statements they make about you are defamatory: I oppose defamation. Now, are their statements defamatory as well as being simply mean? That depends on several factors that probably none of us want me to explore. (I'm willing to do it, if need be, but someone would have to pay me.)

    (3) I recall no knowledge of Chris joking about the murder of Sal Tinajero's father. I don't like that and, if true -- you can link to it if you want -- would tell Chris so to his face. Now you may be leaving something out -- such as you and he may differ in what constitutes a joke -- but if you are correct then I an disappointed.

@Admin1: YOU MODERATE ALL COMMENTS SO YOU CAN CENSOR THEM! GET OFF OF YOUR "FREE SPEECH" HIGH HORSE.

    @Admin2:

    (1) How is a private party speculating as to the identity of an anonymous commenter antagonistic to free speech? If the government forces that information to be divulged, that's bad. If a private party speculates? That itself is ... free speech! Sometimes I think that you don't understand the concept at all.

    (2) Fiala is posting his commedia dell'arte version of a civil and/or ethics complaint and you say that I'm making legal threats to him? Would you please get a grip on yourself? I have not threatened legal action against Fiala. But if I ever had to defend myself against a frivolous claim of his, do you really think that I would not ask for costs? Do you know the difference between that and "threatening legal action"? I accept that this apparently looks to you like a lack of commitment to free speech; all I can hope is that some friend of yours will explain to you the difference.

@Admin3: I find this whole comment of yours about Krom and Vern to be ugly. (And people who live in glass houses should not get into the "what are you doing to help prevent" game.) Beyond that, the only retribution against bad commenters I generally seek is to make them look like idiots. That's the ACLU "the answer to bad speech is more speech" way.

  • Alleged Cause of Action Counter

Threat No 1: “Yet Fiala’s comments are OK. Well, it’s your blog.”

Threat No 2: “As for a complaint with the State Bar — that’s always your (or anyone’s) right, but spurious complaints are not without consequences.”

Threat No 3: “Your willingness to (at least pretend to) threaten my livelihood in such a way speaks volumes about you, but I take it for what it is.”

Threat No 4: “I have not threatened legal action against Fiala. But if I ever had to defend myself against a frivolous claim of his, do you really think that I would not ask for costs?” (implied)

Lie No1: “Fiala: I have no animus towards Gentiles.”

Defamation No1: “I am not, however, a fan of bigots. “If it walks like a duck …” — you know.”

Defamation No2: “Most Germans I know are quite hygienic, actually. Maybe you were thinking of the “Unclean Stans” doctrine?”

C&D violation No 1 "Stanislaw, every time you opine about the law, God kills a kitten."

C&D violation No 2 "For me to say anything but “do as you will” would be giving into thuggery, Stanislaw."

C&D violation No 3 "Stanislaw, you are irresistible. Every time I try to get out you pull me back in."

Anti-Gentile, Racist and Offensive No 1 "My sense is that you might as well be yammering about a scabies-infested German grammar school classmate of yours from half a century ago to whom people referred sotto voce as “Unclean Hans.”""

    and counting!

CAVEAT: Esq. Diamond, you are in violation of my cease and desist ("C&D") order.
Furthermore: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say or do can and will be held against you in a court of law. You have the right to speak to an attorney.(Highly recommended because 3 years since your SBC admission may be insufficient to practice internet related civil and criminal law especially as Pro per)
In addition: As to your livelihood please refer to "cast the first stone" John 8:7, better known to you as "The Unclean Hands Doctrine."
Reminder: Do not forget the "substitute test" for each reference to "Stanislaw", "Fiala" and "you", in your statements, to use words like "Jew" and "Zionist" etc. to mirror your own racism and anti-Gentile hate.

  • And I HAVE deleted nasty comments about Sal's dad, off my blog. I can't do shit about what Dan and Chris think is acceptable.

  • "I can’t do shit about what Dan and Chris think is acceptable."

You could criticize them and ask them to out those that are making such statements on their blog just as you have done here. I cannot recall a single time that you took them to task for some of the horrible things they have allowed to be posted about myself, admin or any of our friends.

I can assure that I am not the "anon" commenter/commenter's making the statements you have taken issue with. I don't care if you believe me or not. Funny that the failed candidates word is gold with you given his history of trashing you behind your back.

  • Sean, do you understand the idea of "this personal beef is between you and them"? I don't want to do the extensive research to determine who's right. Vern has no more responsibility to be the sheriff of OC blogistan than does anyone else.

I have some substantive disagreements with you and Art -- such as the idea that the only people who should be able to write about Santa Ana are those who live in Santa Ana (and more specifically, in practice, those with ties to Santa Ana government) -- but these disagreements are not personal. You are simply wrong -- it's not unusual in politics -- and I think that wanting to make sure that one's own operations don't get examined too carefully comes off as weirdly defensive. But "wrong" and "weird" are pretty weak tea compared to the crap that gets hurled here from tree to tree.

  • Every time I hear you or Art talking about "people poking noses into our affairs" I feel like I'm one of the gang on Scooby-Doo. Your affairs are not just your affairs. If the LA Times comes knocking, are you going to tell them "go away, you aren't from Santa Ana"? It's absurd -- and it's offensive in a city official. It makes people wonder if Santa Ana is like the City of Bell, which I'm SURE did not want people poking around into its affairs.

I presume that you aren't like Bell, so don't invite the inference that you are through what is essentially blocking transparency. Frankly, it just increases any decent journalist's appetite.

  • "Frankly, it just increases any decent journalist’s appetite."

That's the problem Greg. Most, if not all, of these folks are not decent journalists. They are just yayhoos with axes to grind.

Why the great fascination with Santa Ana? Simple, Art and I live here and support the leaders in our city.

Santa Ana's council is made up of a progressive Democratic majority. Sal Tinajero was the first elected OC to push for benefits for domestic partners. Sal Tinajero was the first elected in OC that pushed for support of Harvey Milk Day. Sal Tinajero has long supported organized labor. Sal Tinajero and most of his colleagues are good solid Dems.

Why do folks on a blog claiming to challenge the right wing noise machine and folks on your blog attack he and his allies regularly? Answer...Because he is my friend.

None of these shenanigans are political, they are all personal. Don't try and point the finger soley at Art and I.

If and when a decent unbiased journalist comes knocking, my door is wide open and welcoming.

  • I don't remember me or anyone on my blog attacking Sal. I like Sal. I've talked to him a few times. Just saw him at a Planned Parenthood event. And you think these imaginary attacks on Sal are all because of YOU, Sean?

    Dangerous narcissism.

  • "And you think these imaginary attacks on Sal are all because of YOU, Sean?...Dangerous narcissism."

So what explanation do you have for a blog claiming to be challenging the right wing noise machine to be attacking a solid Dem like Sal?
