Illegal fireworks seized by police in Santa Ana, Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach

Recently, Huntington Beach Police Department undercover detectives successfully confiscated around $50,000 worth of illegal fireworks.

They identified an individual selling these dangerous fireworks on social media.

These are typically mortar-type fireworks that shoot into the air, posing significant risks of fires and serious injuries, and are illegal in California.

Under California HSC, Section 12676, selling illegal fireworks is unlawful. Violators can face fines up to $50k, imprisonment in the county jail for up to one year, or both.

The HBPD has increased their patrols and enforcement of illegal fireworks within the City. They will continue these efforts leading up to the 4th of July, aiming to ensure the community’s safety.

Detectives in Costa Mesa are also actively confiscating illegal fireworks. Their Special Investigations Unit recently confiscated about 400 pounds of illegal fireworks.

The legal fireworks with the Safe & Sane logo go on sale in Costa Mesa starting on June 30 and can only be used from July 2-July 4, between 4pm-10pm.

Please be a good neighbor, don’t use illegal fireworks. If it takes off from the ground, if it does not have the Safe & Sane logo, it’s not legal!

Last weekend, the SAPD’s dedicated Directed Enforcement officers successfully seized over 200 lbs. of illegal fireworks.

These types of fireworks pose significant risks to our community, including potential injuries and fires. Your safety is our top priority!

Possession or use of illegal fireworks is a crime and violators may face a $1,000 fine and up to one year in jail. Stay safe and follow the rules‼️
