Habitat OC broke ground on six new affordable homes in Santa Ana

Habitat for Humanity of Orange County (Habitat OC) broke ground on its newest home development project at 1921 West Washington Avenue in Santa Ana on Saturday, July 27.

The new home site will offer six new affordable ownership opportunities for low-income families including three farmhouse-style duplexes with one unit constructed as an accessible unit for veterans and/or the disabled, available for occupancy by fall 2025.

The groundbreaking event brought together members of the Orange County community including leaders, supporters, and volunteers to support Habitat OC’s mission to provide safe and affordable homeownership for families in Orange County.

Saturday’s event was attended by Santa Ana Mayor, Valerie Amezcua, in addition to Orange County Supervisor, Vicente Sarmiento and Santa Ana Councilmember, Johnathan Hernandez. Habitat OC received a $2.2 million grant from the City of Santa Ana to construct the six homes on West Washington Avenue thanks to the efforts of Santa Ana’s Mayor and City Council.

Currently, 1 in 5 families are paying 50 percent of their household income for their rent or mortgage. Habitat homes built in Orange County are available for qualifying families at a reduced purchase price, and mortgage interest rates based on 30-35 percent of their annual income. Applications are now open for the West Washington Avenue development project and will be set for completion by fall 2025.
