Free MLB Pitch, Hit and Run event set for April 3 at Jerome Park

Community: 2016 Pitch Hit & Run Competition / Competencia de Lanzar, Batear y Correr 2016

The City of Santa Ana’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency Youth Sports Program is proud to be a host site for the 2016 Pitch, Hit & Run competition. The Pitch, Hit & Run is the official youth skills competition of Major League Baseball (MLB). This grassroots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to participate; free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball/softball skills.

“These types of efforts add to the opportunities for our youth to build resilient character traits and help develop into responsible young adults,” said City of Santa Ana Council Member Roman Reyna, who is on the Council’s Committee on Parks, Recreation, Education, and Youth.

The competition will take place on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Jerome Park located at 2115 W. McFadden, Santa Ana, 92704 between 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. Boys and girls ages 7 – 14 can participate and will be divided into four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14. All necessary equipment will be provided.

Participants will compete in three areas – Pitch: throw strikes to a designated target, Hit: hit from a stationary batting tee for distance and accuracy, Run: sprint from 2nd base to home plate for time. All participants will have the opportunity to advance through four levels of competition, including Division Championships at Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the 2016 MLB All-Star Game.

Participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and have their parent or guardian fill out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition. For questions concerning the competition please contact our Local Coordinator at 714-647-6559.

Competencia de Lanzar, Batear y Correr 2016

La Agencia de Parques, Recreación y Servicios Comunitarios de la Ciudad de Santa Ana y el Programa de Deportes Juveniles tiene el orgullo de servir como anfitrión de la Competencia de Lanzar, Batear y Correr 2016. Lanzar, Batear y Correr es la competencia de destrezas oficiales de la Liga Mayor de Beisbol (MLB). Este programa está diseñado para proporcionar a los jóvenes la oportunidad de participar; de forma gratuita, en una competencia que reconoce la excelencia individual en habilidades de béisbol/softbol.

“Este tipo de esfuerzos se suman a las oportunidades para que nuestros jóvenes construyan un carácter flexible que les ayude a desarrollarse como adultos responsables,” dijo el Concejal Roman Reyna, miembro del Ayuntamiento de la Ciudad Santa Ana, quien sirve en el Comité de Parques, Recreación, Educación y Juventud.

La competición tendrá lugar el domingo 3 de abril del 2016 el Parque Jerome, ubicado en 2115 W. McFadden, Santa Ana, 92704 entre las 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. Niños y niñas de 7 – 14 años de edad pueden participar y serán divididos en cuatro categorías por edad: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12 y 13/14. Se proporcionará todo el equipo necesario.

Los participantes competirán en tres áreas. Lanzar: lanzar strikes a un objetivo designado, Batear: batear desde un suporte de pelota estacionario para distancia y precisión, Correr: correr de segunda base hasta casa por el tiempo. Todos los participantes tendrán la oportunidad de avanzar a través de cuatro niveles de competencia, incluyendo campeonatos del equipo en estadios de béisbol de Grandes Ligas y la Final Nacional en el 2016 MLB All-Star Game.
