Early morning water main break floods neighborhood at Pomona and S. Parton

A water main break at the 700 block of Pomona Street near South Parton Street sent water gushing down the streets in a Santa Ana neighborhood early Friday morning around 1:40 a.m., according to ABC News.

Santa Ana police and Orange County Fire responded to the scene, but were initially unable to shut off the broken main. Public Works officials were eventually able to turn the water off at 2 a.m., leaving soaked and muddy streets, according to CBS News.

Santa Ana residents pay some of the highest water rates in Orange County but the reality is that the water infrastructure in our city is aging and the City has moved too slowly to make needed repairs.

The City has also let go many human operators and replaced them with computer-operated equipment that has at times contributed to problems with the water mains.

And you have to wonder if some of this stems from the departure of our previous Public Works Director, Raul Godinez, who ran off to get a better job in El Monte.  He has not been replaced as of yet.
