On Friday night, at 8:17 p.m., the Orange Police Department and the Orange Fire Department responded to reports of a traffic collision in the 700 block of N. Shattuck Place.
A Ford F-250 was traveling south on Shattuck and veered into a parked Chevy Silverado. Two pedestrians, male adults from Orange, were standing near the Chevy and were struck by the Ford. Both pedestrians were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The man driving the Ford, fled on foot, but was located by patrol officers near Lincoln Street and Oakmont Avenue.
He was identified as 26-year-old Humberto Lopez Flores from Orange. Officers suspect Flores was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.
The Orange Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded and assumed the investigation.
Flores was booked at Orange County Jail for two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol causing death, and for fleeing the scene of the traffic collision.
One of the victims has been identified by his family as Manuel Ortiz, a 59-year-old resident of Santa Ana. His family has started a GoFundMe page to help with his sudden burial expenses. Ortiz left behind five children and two grandchildren.
