Orange County First District Supervisor Janet Nguyen easily beat her unfunded opponent, Steve Rocco, in this week’s Primary Election, but she refused to endorse any of the other Vietnamese American candidates – and right now they are all losing.

In the 72nd Assembly District, Nguyen’s fellow Republican, Long Pham, is in fourth place, behind fellow Vietnamese American candidate Joe Dovinh, an independent turned Democrat.

Over in the race for Area One on the Orange County Board of Education, Ken Nguyen, a Democrat, is losing to Robert Hammond, the gay-bashing Republican candidate that Nguyen personally recruited for this race.

Supervisor Nguyen could have been beaten in this election, but the local Democratic Party gave her a free pass.  They may come to rue that decision when she eventually runs for U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez’ seat.

One thing the local Democratic Party has not done is elect any of their Vietnamese candidates to any partisan offices – or any County seats.  Once in awhile they get a Viet candidate elected to a local city council or school board, but whenever they run for something big, they lose.
